Be Imperfect

May 26, 2013

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am perfectly content with not being perfect, but most of us all strive towards some kind of perfection or how we think things should be.  This week is about letting go and not worrying if things don’t go the way you expect or want them to.  It is very freeing. I think not aiming for perfection may actually make things a little more perfect!

“When you aim for perfection, you discover it’s a moving target.”
– George Fisher

Once you accept the fact that you’re not perfect, then you develop some confidence.”
– Rosalynn Carter

Be Open

May 19, 2013

“Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed.”
― Buddha Siddhartha Guatama Shakyamuni

“The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size.”
― Albert Einstein

I have become alot more open to new experiences over the last 5 years or so, which I believe has helped to make me a better person.  I have challenged myself to try new things and pushed myself to step out of my box, which has not been easy but after doing so I am always so glad that I did.  I would have missed out on some wonderful experiences and wouldn’t have met some of the wonderful people who are in my life today had I not.  In a book that I am in reading by Gretchin Rubin she says “Happiness does not always make me happy.”  I absolutely get what she is saying by this statement.  Fear is powerful and it holds us back in so many ways, it can imprison you if you let it.  Facing your fears takes strength and courage and definitely is not easy, and it may not make you happy at the time.  You will usually find out once you have that 1. It wasn’t nearly as bad as you thought it would be, and 2. You will feel so much better about yourself once you have.  But to do so you must be open and willing to have new experiences in your life.

So BE OPEN and enjoy life!

I challenge you this week to open yourself to something new this week. If you do let me know!

How to Live Life More Intentionally

May 12, 2013

Shawn over at Awesomely Awake enlightened me about daily intentions (singular purposes that help us to live mindfully each day). Sometimes we get lost being parents, spouses, or students. It is so easy to get caught up in our daily routines that we forget who we really are and what life is all about. To help keep me focused I want to implement Weekly Intentions.

Set a Weekly Intention

Each week I will focus on one thing, which will help me to be more responsible and mindful of my thoughts and actions. Weekly intentions are not about crossing things off a to do list; they are about how you want to think, feel, or act. Don’t let life just happen to you. Be in charge of how you want to live your life.

My Plan

Each Sunday I will give some thought to my weekly intention. Posting it here will help keep me accountable and focused.

It may be helpful to set little reminders of what you intention is, that way it will be easier to stay on track. Putting sticky notes around the house can be a great reminder; I’ve written many of them!

Don’t feel bad or give up if you slip up, just brush it off and keep on going. With practice you will get better, and you will feel great about challenging yourself to become the person you want to be.

Grow Along With Me

I challenge each of you to go on this journey of intentional living with me. Please feel free to leave comments and tell us how you are doing or any tips you have. After all, it feels great to have the support of others.
