Grateful Friday #1

September 16, 2016

I want to change up my 5 things Friday post a little bit and just talk about the things I am grateful for each week. I feel like this will be such a great way to keep me conscious of all the wonderful things around me and all the big and small joys that I have in my life. I know that I sometimes need a reminder to stay mindful and in the NOW, and I guessing many of you do as well! 🙂

I’m Grateful For:

Finally finding a Kabocha Squash.

I have been trying to find this squash for a couple years. I’ve read so many wonderful things about them on blogs for years now and have been dying to try it myself. I spotted one in the Grassroots Natural Market in Jacksonville and I got so excited! So I sliced it up… almost lost a few digits in the process (but it was so worth it) and tossed it in some coconut oil, salt, and pepper. It is by far my favorite squash! It has such a sweet taste very unlike any of the squashes that I have had. I really hope I can snag another one soon!

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

I’m about a third of the way through this book and it is truly giving me some amazing insight into how the mind/body works and how it can be so beneficial for everyone to realize we all have the power to separate ourselves from our thoughts.

Our Better Outdoor Space

Recently Jim and I cleaned up our outdoor space. We wanted simple, clean, and comfortable. A space we could enjoy using all Fall and a lot of the Winter. We gave it a fresh coat of paint, cleaned, and got rid of a lot of unwanted stuff that had found it’s way out there. Since then you can find me out there most days reading, playing with the girls, blogging, or having a meal.

Porch

That’s it for this week guys! Have a lovely weekend!

Today I’m linking up with Heather.

One of my Resolutions for this Year!

January 1, 2014

Happy 2014 Everyone! I hope everyone had a fun time bringing in the New Year last night.  J and I had a quiet celebration at home.  Every New Years Eve we make our lists of resolution and read over our’s from the years past.  We have been doing this for last 10 years so it’s alot fun reading what our goals were from a decade ago. Here is one of my resolutions for this year.

This year I want to make it a priority to TRAVEL MORE! J and I have never made this a priority, we are awesome at planning trips and then deciding we don’t have time to go or we will postpone it and then one day never comes.  I would like for this to start changing this year. I came across some inspiring quotes from Pinterest!

I could go on and on, but you get the point 🙂

Let’s Chat:

Do you make a list of resolutions for the New Year?

Do you have a favorite place you like to visit over and over?

Any awesome recommendations??

Starting Fresh

December 30, 2013

I cannot believe we are only a fews day away from the new year. I’m sure it will take me forever to get used to writing 2014, but I am ready for a New Year and new exciting adventures.  Speaking of adventures we had actually planned to leave the day after Christmas and head to SC for 10 days, but we made a last minute change of plans.  I was starting to feel so overwhelmed with everything I felt I needed to do here at home.  I talking like serious deep cleaning and purging things and then reorganizing. Things that in a normal week I just do not have time to tackle.  It seems like we are either always busy with plans or travelling and those things just get pushed back and back and never happen.  So with the influx of the things we received and the kids received for Christmas I knew it was time! Thankfully J was on board with this and so we have been tackling one room at time and giving it a makeover. We are about half way over at this point.

I am also looking at paint colors. When we moved into this house we said we were going to paint the hallway and also the girls bathroom and we haven’t done it yet.  I have really been wanting to put gray up on the walls.  So of course I have been looking at Pinterest getting some ideas, I know we will be going with some shade of gray now I just need to decide how light or dark I want to go.  Here are a couple of shades I’m thinking about.

The first is Repose Gray. I know it is incredibly hard from the pic to really know what the color will look like but at least it gives me some idea.

Repose Gray

and the second is Lazy Gray

Lazy Gray

Both seem to be very similar. I really just need to go pick up some paint cards and see what looks good.

It feels great to be doing this, you may think I’m crazy to choose this over being on vacation, but it feels good to get rid of things you no longer need or use. I cannot even tell you how extremely happy it makes me to walk into the rooms that I know are free of clutter and crap stuff. Freeing up space for what really matters! 🙂

Let’s Chat:

How often do you go through your house and purge items? I feel like I do this several times a year. It is amazing how quickly “things” accumulate!

Do you like organizing? OMG I love it, such a high…I know I’m a little crazy 🙂

Happy Mornings

July 28, 2013

It has been so nice this summer not really having to worry about hectic mornings, for the most part anyway…but with school getting close (just a couple weeks away) I know the mornings and days will be busier and following more of a schedule.  My oldest will be in Kindergarten and my youngest (2) will be at home with me.  I know from experience that when my mornings are rushed and then add a 4 year old soon to be 5 on to that sometimes we may not part on the best of terms.  This really bothers me.  The mornings set the tone for the entire day and since I of course want my day and the rest of my family’s day to be good I want to take some time to mentally prepare for this.

Here are a few ways I hope to do this.

1. Wake up before anyone else so I can have a few minutes to myself.

2. Read my devotional.

3. Tell myself this over and over…. I can not set my hope for a good morning on what my kids might or might not do. I must bring the attitude with which I want the morning to be filled.

I know that I will have to constantly remind myself of this, and that I will mess up but hopefully with enough practice it will sink in.

Most importantly I want our days to be Positive, Happy, and for us to feel renewed and not drained at the end of the day.  I want my children to see me happy and engaged in what they are doing, not passive or frustrated.

Questions:

Do you mentally prepare for your days?

If you are having a bad day how do you turn it around?
