Highlights from the Weekend

October 24, 2016

It was a perfectly Fall weekend, it was so HOT  all week but then the weekend was here and bam cool, crisp weather perfection!

We knocked several things off of our Fall To-Do List and had so much fun doing it.

Friday night we had a family movie night and watched Hocus Pocus! I love that the girls love it every bit as much as I do! #parentingwin

hocus-pocus

On Saturdays I let myself sleep in, which means I usually wake up at 7:00 instead of 5:00. Those extra 2 hours are wonderful and I also usually take Saturday off from working out, so this means I might just get to have a relaxing morning drinking coffee, reading blogs, writing, or responding back to a few emails. On Saturdays all of this is done from the bed. 🙂

We made our candy apples!

It’s funny the girls were excited to make them but didn’t want to eat them! 🙂

On Sunday the girls had fun painting pumpkins. I’ve been doing this with them since they were little and they look forward to it every year!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend also!

Grateful Friday #6

October 21, 2016

It seems impossible to me that October is almost over. How does that happen? I feel like it was just October 1 and I was thinking about my Fall To-Do List. We have some fun Fall activities planned for the weekend! We will be making the candy apples that Lily has been dying to make, watching Hocus Pocus, painting pumpkins, and we also will be deciding on how we are going to decorate our trunk for Trunk-or Treat next week!

Now on to a few things making me smile this week!

The Weather

It may be October but lately it has felt more like August with temps reaching to 90°F. But I can’t complain about the weekend temps, 70’s are looking good!

New Recipes

I love finding a new recipe to try. This one from Detoxinista looks delicious and very Fallish. I hope to make it over the weekend.

Saying Goodbye to Facebook

This continues to bring me so much joy, read my post on Letting Go of Mental Clutter to find out more.

Grateful Friday #5 (Greenville, Asheville, and Black Mountain)

October 14, 2016

My days this week have been all wompy! The girls got a Hurricane day last Friday and then were on Fall break Mon-Wed of this week. So basically all I know is today is Friday, right!? Thankfully our area did not receive any real damage from the Hurricane Matthew. We had already left for our vacation so we missed all the weather but kept up with it on the XM during on travels and checked in with family.

Now onto some of the highlights from this week! Warning….lots of pics this week! 🙂

Greenville, SC

On our way up to Black Mountain, NC we spent a night in our favorite Downtown! We miss you Gville!

Favorite Salad

While in Greenville we ate dinner at California Dreaming and I had my favorite salad. Their house dressing is to die for and their croissants melt in your mouth!

Walking around Downtown

The girls were excited to visit the ducks again!

Shrimp and Grits

We were looking forward to hitting up the Downtown Farmer’s Market Saturday but it was canceled due to high winds. Thankfully Soby’s on the Side was open and we were still able to get our Shrimp and Grits and delicious muffins! We were happy!

Corn Maze at Eliada Homes, Asheville

This is the largest corn maze in Western North Carolina. We had fun getting lost in the maze and doing all the other activities they had to offer! Plus it was for a good cause…the proceeds go to helping take care of high risk children and adolescents. Here’s more info about Eliada.

Green Sage Cafe

Just one of the many awesome things about Asheville is the variety of food. You do not have to look far to find healthy options for everyone. Whether you are vegan, gluten free, dairy free or if you can eat whatever you want, they have it! The Green Sage Cafe had so many vegan and gluten free options and the food was delicious! I ordered a vegan mocha shake, it was made vegan by using coconut milk and coconut ice cream! I also ordered the Buenos Burrito which was filled with scrambled eggs, black beans, spinach, root hash, avocado salsa, and spicy habanero pepper jack cheese. Another thing I love about the Green Sage Cafe is that they use local, organic, non-gmo and humanely-raised ingredients!

Black Mountain

We stayed in a house on Black Mountain and it was so remote and peaceful with beautiful views!

Family Time

In the evenings we enjoyed playing ALL the games! Bingo, Twister, Table Tennis, and Foosball!

Sunrises

We enjoyed the sunrise each morning from our back deck. Nothing like cool, crisp, mountain air to get your day started off right! And a hot mug of Molasses milk!

Craggy Pinnacle

We loved our hike up to the top of Craggy Pinnacle!

Then we drove over to Mt. Mitchell and did the short hike up to the summit, the highest point east of the Mississippi at 6,634 ft.

Mt Mitchell

We had a great time getting away from everything and just enjoying being together!

I hope you all have had a lovely week!

Grateful Friday #4

October 7, 2016

Does anyone else love the start of a new month?! It’s like a fresh start and it is made even more awesome when it happens to be what I consider to be one of the best months of the year. I hope you all have had a great start to the month.

Here’s a look at a few things that I have taken the time to appreciate over the week.

Cooler Temps!

We have had some mornings that have started in the 50’s and 60’s which feel so good, especially since our daytime temperatures are still reaching into the 90’s! I love starting the day outside when it feels like this. I feel ya coming Fall!

Decorating for Halloween

We’ve never gone all out, but we do enjoy putting up a few decorations. Every year we keep saying we are going to do some extreme decorating….but that hasn’t happened YET!

Have a lovely weekend and if you are Hurricane Matthew’s path stay safe. We are in South Georgia and are likely to be impacted.
